Hair systems and toppers

Non-surgical hair
replacement for
women and men
in Columbia, SC.

I have fitted hair systems for 20 years: for people who are thinning and nowhere near bald, for edges worn away by years of tension, and for men who waited longer than they should have. A system is built for daily wear and cut to your head.

01  —  Who I fit them for

Three situations that bring people here.

Thinning, not yet bald

Partial systems and density work that blend into your own hair. If your thinning is only on top, I also fit hair toppers after your consultation. I keep a few in stock and order the right one when I need to.

Edges and hairline

Years of tension or styles worn too tight. Some of it can be protected and some cannot, and the analysis tells the difference. A hairline can be rebuilt and blended.

Men

Crown and temple coverage, planned while there is still hair to blend into, with maintenance on a schedule.

If a medical condition or a medical treatment caused your hair loss, ask your physician to write it as a cranial prosthesis, a medically necessary wig, or a medical hair system.

I also currently serve the Columbia and Charleston, SC, VA Medical Centers for cranial prostheses, and I work with veterans through the VA to get theirs.

02  —  Two routes

You may need less than you think.

People walk in asking for a full unit and walk out with density work, because that is what the scalp said they needed. I would rather sell you the smaller thing that looks right.

You hear the number before anything is ordered. CareCredit is accepted, and what the booking deposit secures is on the policies page.

  • A partial
Density at the crown, the part or the edges, added to what you have. Lighter, less expensive and usually the better-looking answer while you still have hair.
  • A full unit, stock or custom
A stock unit is fitted and cut in on you within a few weeks. A custom unit is built to your measurements, density and color, and takes longer.

03  —  How a fitting goes

From the first appointment to walking out in it.

STEP 1

You are looked at first.

A consultation comes before any system is ordered, because the scalp underneath decides how a system is attached.

STEP 2

I match and I measure.

Color, texture, density and hairline, matched to your own hair or your photos, then the measurements it is built to.

STEP 3

It is fitted in a private room.

Cut in and styled on you, with the door shut. You learn how it goes on, comes off, gets washed, and when to come back.

04  —  What people ask first

The questions I answer at every consultation.

How long does a hair system last?
Somewhere between four months and a year, depending on the base, how you wear it and how much you sweat in it. A thin skin base looks the most like scalp and wears out the fastest. Many people own two and alternate them.
Can I shower, swim, work out and sleep in it?
Yes, and that is the point of a bonded system. Chlorine, salt water and heavy sweat are hard on a base, so it gets rinsed the same day, and frequent training means more frequent visits. If you would rather take it off at night, there is a version for that.
Will it damage the hair I still have?
Not when the attachment is chosen around what is underneath, which is why the analysis comes first. Tension is what does damage, and tension is a fitting decision. If your edges are already thin, nothing gets clipped to them.
How often do I need to come in?
Every four to six weeks for a bonded system, and less often for one you take off yourself. The unit comes off, the skin is cleaned and checked, and it goes back on. Putting it off is what turns a small fit problem into a new unit.
What decides what a system costs?
Four things: partial or full, stock or custom, the base, and the hair itself. Nothing gets ordered until you have your figure in writing.
Will anyone be able to tell?
Not when the density suits your age and the hairline is not drawn straight across. Almost every unit that gets noticed had too much hair in it, not too little.
